Every journey has a reason - Reasons for Travel, the essence of Kim Young-ha's essays.
Ten captivating essays, written with inimitable insight and meticulous prose, tracing the cycle from travel to everyday life and back to travel.
The revised and expanded edition of Kim Young-ha's essay collection Reasons for Travel has been published by bokbokseoga. Rather than a conventional travelogue recounting unusual experiences encountered on the road, Reasons for Travel is an endless journey of thought that begins with travel and expands ever further into reflections on humanity and writing, the other and hospitality, life and storytelling. Life Pattern Korea. Following Kim's singular and deeply humanistic thinking, fragments of thought about travel and life that we have left unresolved and set aside gradually take on their own contexts and forms, creating a reading experience that leaves an intense and lasting impression, much like an unforgettable journey. This is also a compelling reason why so many readers open Reasons for Travel before setting out, to reflect on the meaning and purpose of travel, or after returning, to consider what their journey really was. With the addition of "How to Travel in an Age When Travel Is Impossible," an essay that examines what travel came to mean to us after the COVID-19 pandemic through Kim Young-ha's dazzling yet precise way of thinking, this newly expanded edition truly deserves to be called the essence of his essay writing.
To arrive in an unfamiliar place of your own will and open every sense in your body to experience it. For those who have experienced this even once, travel rather than everyday life becomes the point of origin in life. If there is someone who feels more at ease when setting out on a journey than when returning to everyday life, that person is probably the same kind of person as I am. To be destined to spend this life wandering. To have no point of origin to which one must return. I have decided to accept that now.
