This book was designed to solve the two biggest concerns for students preparing for the Intermediate-Advanced level of the Test of Korean Proficiency (TOPIK) exam: “When studying vocabulary, where should I start and how far should I go?” and “How can I make sure not to forget vocabulary and be able to use it in the appropriate situation?”
In order to allow for effective study in a short amount of time, we’ve selected and included 1,400 essential vocabulary words at the Intermediate-Advanced level according to their importance and frequency of appearance on the exam. After analyzing all questions that have been released since the TOPIK exam was revised in 2014, we collected vocabulary published in the National Institute for International Education’s “Public Index of TOPIK Vocabulary” and in textbooks from major domestic universities and institutes, so that learners can study some 30 vocabulary words on a certain topic each day.
Additionally, before learners study the full meaning, they pass through the “Warm-up” stage, in which they see sentences that include the vocabulary words and infer their meaning. In the full “Learning” stage, learners can study vocabulary more precisely through the various situations and example sentences presented alongside the main words, and “Exam Tips” and “Background Knowledge” sections under the main words help with deeper, more solid memorization. In the “Checking” stage, you can periodically check what you’ve learned, with “Let’s Check” sections after each day’s learning, review sections approximately every 10 days, and 2 mini mock exams included at the end of the book. What’s more, in addition to sound files of the vocabulary and example sentences read by professional voice actors, PDFs of English translations are also provided through QR codes, supporting easy study in a variety of ways.
